The Miami Innovation District, imagined by SHoP Architects and West 8 with developer Michael Simkins, is a transformational master plan for a 10-acre site in Park West, Miami. The project proposes a dense, walkable neighborhood tailor-made for the global tech community, combining work, housing, and public spaces in a single integrated campus.
With over 7 million square feet of built area, the district supports thriving creative technology industries in Miami. This includes office space, flexible work environments, exhibition zones, and performance areas — all interwoven with shaded plazas, walkways, and green rooftops for community life.
Housing in the innovation district isn’t just typical apartments; it features micro-units (some under 300 sq ft), designed for young professionals dr/n to tech innovation.
A standout feature is the Miami Innovation Tower, a sculptural centerpiece rising over 600 feet, with a “programmable active skin” that can display dynamic media. There will be a rooftop amphitheater, a sky garden, restaurants, and observation decks — making it more than just an office building, but a cultural and social landmark.
The district is structured on multiple “levels”:
- • Commons – public entrances and plazas
- • Campus – collaborative office and gathering spaces
- • Horizon – green roof landscapes and outdoor meeting areas
- • Cloud – elevated communal zones, about 200 feet high, with shared amenities like daycare, coworking, and exhibition areas
This is more than just a development — it's a vision to reposition Miami as a global innovation hub, fueling sustainable economic growth, supporting startups, and tying into the local community in Park West.
